The scope of discussion about man-animal conflict in India, until recent decades was constricted to the stray dog menace. Now, the crisis has expanded to include the other animal species like elephants, tigers, leopards, lions, wild boars, sloth bear, deer and monkeys. The crisis is generally attributed to the key cause of habitat loss. Soaring population of humans as well as animal species shrink the available land mass for use by both and the game of encroachment begins. Rising human space of socio-economic aspirations triggers encroachment over forest resources which incite the wild animals to turn to human settlements. Crop raiding by elephants in Assam, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala and Odisha are regularly in news. Kerala has declared it a state disaster.
